Temporary crowns are crafted taking into account the patient’s facial pattern, smile line, his or her skin tone and gingival (gum) coloration. Usually, the teeth are prepared followed by retrofitting the hand-crafted temporary splint to fit directly on the teeth creating a instant smile makeover.
Ms. M was seeking a smile makeover that would make-up for her crooked smile, which she had all her life (Fig. 1). Natural looking, temporary crowns were first created in our in-house laboratory prior to her appointment. They were personalized to match her facial pattern, smile line, and skin tone and gingival (gum) coloration.

When performing her full arch smile makeover we took into account her complete facial pattern including the lip line, prominent cheek bones, and skin tone. Although we could not alter her midline or the angle of her teeth, we compensated by changing the crown lengths, shapes of her teeth, and their positions to draw attention away from the asymmetry.
